Flood money

November 14, 2013

When the Henry family, of Grosse Pointe Park, first heard about the September flooding in Colorado, they felt compelled to help. Shawn, the mother, had worked at Cal-Wood Education Center near Boulder, Colo. in 1985, and she and husband, Peter, took their three children Haven, Whittier and Atticus there for a visit this past summer.

Some time later, Cal- Wood, an outdoor wilderness experience center, was among the many areas damaged, its trails and roads rendered impassable in the flooding.

To help defray the costs of flood damage, the Henry children, all students at Defer Elementary School, hosted a garage sale in October. Neighbors and friends donated items, and the children eventually raised $467 for the center.
