Norsemen drop two

The Grosse Pointe North girls’ swimming and diving team lost its final division meet of the season last week, losing 121-65 to Eisenhower.

The Norsemen had two winners, Meghan Veltri won the 100-yard butterfly and Kayleigh Gehlert scored a win in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Head coach Mike O’Connor said season-best results were recorded in the 50-yard freestyle by Hannah Mattes, Erica Lizza, Maria Mermiges and Lauren Gross; 100-yard freestyle by Grace Addy, Lindsey Howshaw, and Mermiges; and 100-yard butterfly by Veltri, Gina Peruzzi and Amber Gieseking.

North finished 1-3 in the Macomb Area Conference Red Division.

Later in the week, North lost a 109-69 decision to defending Division 1 state champion Farmington Hills Mercy.

Mackenzie Simon won the 100-yard backstroke, while Mattes took the 100-yard breastroke.

O’Connor said season-best performances were recorded in the 50-yard freestyle by Mary Emerick and Emily Hoshaw; 100-yard freestyle by Stephanie Shea, Gabrielle Shimko and Jill Hendra; 200-yard freestyle by Shea; 100-yard backstroke by Karyn Schwartz and Rachel Stander; 100-yard breaststroke by Mattes, Lindsey Hoshaw, Allison Fly and Gieseking; and 1 meter diving by Chloe Ribco.

Grosse Pointe North dropped to 4-5 overall.
