More than 50 U of D Jesuit parents, current and alumni, as well as friends of the school from the Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods area celebrated Sunday, Sept. 8, at Harbor Hill Park in Grosse Pointe Farms with a gift-gathering party in preparation for the 42nd U of D Jesuit High School and Academy Scholarship Auction.Hosts Thomas and Marie Forbes, of Grosse Pointe Park, Richard and Jerilyn Sandifer, GPP, and James and Marie Wagner, GPF, entertained guests during the afternoon on the shores of Lake St. Clair.Honorary chairs for the scholarship auction are Susan and Bill Conway, of Birmingham, Kimberly and Michael Porter, of Farmington Hills, and Eve and David VanEgmond, of Grosse Pointe Shores. This year’s auction theme is “Pure Michigan,” celebrating the history, tradition and natural wonders of the Great Lakes state. The auction is Saturday, Nov. 9. Money raised at the event benefits the school’s scholarship fund. Nearly 700 people attended last year’s auction, which raised more than $370,000. That money went toward the overall $1.7 million in financial aid awarded to one-third of the school’s 900 students. Of those students, about 100 annually attend from the Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods.
