Grosse Pointe North’s girls’ hockey team made repeating as division champs a little tougher last week.

The Norsemen lost 7-6 to Plymouth-Canton-Salem (PCS), dropping a game behind Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood and Grosse Pointe South in the Michigan Metro Girls High School Hockey League Division 1 standings.

“We came out very slow and PCS came out very hungry,” head coach Joe Lucchese said. “We made a game out of it, but this will serve as a good wake-up call. The girls have to be ready to play every team on our schedule.”

The line of senior Bryn Moody and freshmen Elizabeth Gallagher and Lindsay Gallagher combined for all six goals.

Last weekend, North rebounded with a convincing 9-1 win over Northville.

Sophomore Nicole Haggerty scored a highlight-reel goal and senior Melanie Mermiges tallied twice to lead the Norsemen.

The Norsemen dipped to 9-2 in Division 1 and 11-2 overall.

It looks like North has to win out to win a second straight division title. Its game against Cranbrook-Kingswood is Wednesday, Feb. 13, on the road, and the rematch with Grosse Pointe South is the regular season finale, Wednesday, Feb. 27, at home.
