Grosse Pointe South High School’s band and orchestra presents Pops & Pastries, its annual fall concert and fundraising event, at 7p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at the school’s main gymnasium.The show features pastries, a tin-can auction and 50-50 raffle. It’s the inaugural concert for new director of bands Christopher Takis; this year’s theme, “A Salute to Disney,” chosen in conjunction with the music department’s spring trip to Disney Land in California. Proceeds from the concert help reduce trip costs and allow for more performers to attend.Musical highlights include selections from “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Up!,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” Fantasia,” “Fantasia 2000,” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Hannah Adams, South’s symphony orchestra concertmaster, is the featured violin soloist in Antonio Vivaldi’s Autumn from “The Four Seasons.”Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors and $5 for students and are available at gpsbo.org, Posterity: A Gallery in the Village or at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. “Come early to bid on tin-can auction items,” concert publicity spokesman Charlie Krasner said in a press release. Auction items include: four one-day Park Hopper passes to Disney World in Florida; two one-day, unlimited 12-hour lift tickets to Boyne Mountain, AHEE diamond and sterling necklace, and a plethora of gift cards, services and accessories from local businesses such as American Cycle and Fitness Center, Lou’s Pet Shop, Moosejaw, The Yoga Shelter, Panera Bread, Grosse Pointe Music Academy, Grosse Pointe Art Center, Do By Hair, Sanders, Kroger and more.Admission includes access to all pastries.
