Annual holiday mart on horizon

The 54th annual Grosse Pointe Holiday Mart is from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

A Patron Preview Cocktail Party is 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 18. It features cocktails, entertainment and shopping. Da Edoardo, Dish Detroit, Farms Fresh Market, Green Dot Stables, Hard Luck Vodka, The Hill Seafood & Chophouse, Slows Bar B Q and Supino Pizziera are to be in attendance. Ticket cost starts at $75 and are available online at

Patron preview party chairwomen are Carrington Smith and Kate Peabody. Shirley and Bruce Bradley are serving as the party’s honorary chairs.

Event proceeds benefit the cancer prevention and educational programs of Planned Parenthood Mid and South Michigan.

The holiday mart offers shoppers the opportunity to do holiday shopping in one place selecting merchandise from nearly 30 upscale Michigan and other vendors from around the country.

Items include men and women’s clothing, designer jewelry and housewares.

The Holiday Mart Café is open both Friday and Saturday during holiday mart hours.

Admission is $5.

“As we approach our 55th anniversary, I am proud the Grosse Pointe Holiday Mart has become a favorite shopping tradition for so many metro Detroiters and that we continue to provide valuable support for women’s health,” said Helen McKnight, holiday mart chairwoman.
