September 27, 2012

The Grosse Pointe South varsity Red Barons defeated the Sterling Heights Redskins 41-19 at Grosse Pointe South High School last weekend.

Logan Mico opened the game with a 13-yard run and a 56-yard pass to Nathan Barbish.

Mico then powered in from 3 yards out behind the blocking of Patrick Nauert, Matt Abar, Steven Kretzschmar, Jack Kennedy, Noah Davey, and Dylan Hill.

Connor McCarron hit the first of four extra points, making it 7-0.

After a Sterling Heights touchdown, Mico returned the kickoff 48 yards.

McCarron covered the final 18 yards of the drive on sweeps behind the blocks of Adam Comes, Ethan McComas, Conner McQueen, Max Cervantes, Tanner Belanger, Ethan Tucker and Jack Hensien.

Sterling Heights scored once more, but Jack Doerer sparked the Barons with a 45-yard kickoff return. McCarron carried the ball for the final 20 yards from scrimmage on the drive.

With only seconds to go in the half, Mico hit McCarron for a 30-yard completion to the 8-yard line. McCarron then kicked a 25-yard field goal as time expired.

Led by Patrick Nauert’s four tackles for a loss and Damar Doles interception, the Red Barons closed the door on Sterling Heights.
