Gerardo Voci

City of Grosse Pointe resident Gerardo Voci, 92, died Monday, June 5, 2017.

Born in the southern Italian mountain town of Sant’ Andrea, he advanced his studies at the University of Rome, followed by his medical training at the University of Paris. He came to the United States in 1955 and helped advance the use of heart catheterizations in both adults and children. He was a professor of medicine at Temple University School of Medicine and the director of the catheterization lab at the affiliated Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia. He practiced medicine more than 50 years.

Gerardo’s other loves were his family and his rose garden, both of which he raised with great devotion. In his later years he also excelled in culinary skills. He enjoyed the loyal companionship of his beloved dog, Antoine.

Gerardo is survived by his sons, Gregory Peter Voci and James Matthew Voci (Ann); grandchildren, Elena, Emma, Erin and Eve and his brother, the Rev. Pasquale Voci of Italy.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Rosa.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, June 16, at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms with a greeting period beginning at 9:30 a.m.
