Former Grosse Pointe Woods resident Renate Biretta-Renaud, 78, died Saturday, June 3, 2017, in Las Cruces, N.M., where she had been living.

Renate was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Karlsruhe, Germany, to Katherine and Friedrich Schuler. She worked as a legal secretary, then as a secretary at Volkwagen of America in Troy and later in the risk management department at Talon Inc. in Detroit.

She was a member of the Northeast Guidance Center and Jefferson Beach Yacht Club, where her first husband, Edward F. Biretta, was a former commodore. She also was a member of the choir at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores.

Renate enjoyed reading, traveling, water aerobics and playing tennis and mahjong.

She is survived by her husband, Jacques Renaud; daughters, Marilyn Biretta McDermond (Mark), Christine Biretta Wilkinson (Jeremy), Barbara Biretta Snyder (the late Henry) and Donna Biretta Ventimiglia (Sam); son, Eric Biretta (Mara) and grandchildren, Ken, Michael, Gerry and Wendy Snyder, Christina (Ventimiglia) Kozlowski, Sam Jr. and Johanna Ventimiglia, Mia Biretta, Kyle and Erica Smith, Jim and Steven McDermond and Brody and Liam Wilkinson. She also is survived by eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Renate was predeceased by her first husband, Edward F. Biretta; son, Gary Biretta, her parents and brother, Hans Schuler.

A private memorial service will be held.
