Jack D. Shortt

Died: Sunday, March 09, 2003
Former Grosse Pointe Woods and Sarasota, Fla. resident Jack D. Shortt, 83, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2003, at St. John Hospital.

Born in Virginia in 1919, Mr. Shortt graduated from Northeastern High School in 1937 and attended Wayne State University.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Shortt was employed at Packard Motor Co. and later worked at the Chrysler Corp. Tank Plant in Warren as an executive manufacturing engineer.

He was a Mason and a Shriner.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports (especially baseball) and attend their music recitals.

"He was a kind, loving and humorous person," said his daughter, Cindy Gohlke. "He had the kind of personality and sense of humor that drew people to him wherever he went. He will be missed by many friends and our family."

He is survived by his daughers, Cindy (Paul) Gohlke; Sandra Shortt and Susan (David) Bramer; his grandchildren, Chad, Caroline, Ben, Cathy, Emma and Rachel; and his brother, William.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret; and his sister, Jetha Dorenbush.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 12, at A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods.

Interment is in Resurrection Cemetery.
