Barbara Ann Welsh

Grosse Pointe Woods resident Barbara Ann Welsh, 56, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2003.

Born in Detroit in 1947, Mrs. Welsh graduated from St. Anthony High School and the University of Detroit in 1969.

She was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority, where she was the former editor of the national magazine, the secretary and treasurer of the Grosse Pointe Alumni Chapter, and the former president of the Detroit Alumni Panhellenic Association.

Mrs. Welsh was a member and secretary of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick as well as a committee member for the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

She was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians as well as publicity chairman of the Michigan State Board, the secretary and publicity chairman of the Laoh Ethel Kennedy Division and member of the St. Brigid Degree Team.

She also volunteered for the American Red Cross and Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

Mrs. Welsh's interests included gardening, crafts, reading, movies, trivia, theater, history and animals, especially her cats Kitton, Elliot, Ralph and Catty and her dog, Guinness.

She is survived by her daughters, Meghan, Erin and Caitlin; her son, Bryan (Jennifer); and her sister, Frances Leder.

She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Timothy Welsh.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 24, at A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods.
