Edna Patricia Navin

Edna Patricia Navin, 80, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2003, at St. John Hospital.

Born in Detroit in 1923, Ms. Navin graduated from Cass Technical Senior High in 1942. She attended Michigan State University, where she majored in foods and nutrition and completed her internship at Shady Grove Hospital in Pennsylvania. She earned her master's degree from Wayne State University and began working as head dietician for Grace Hospital, where she remained until her retirement.

Ms. Navin was a member of the Grosse Pointe Presbyterian Church. She served as president of the Michigan Dietician Association and held the same office for the Detroit Dieticians Association.

She founded Dial-a-Dietician, which was a telephone nutrition-counseling program.

Ms. Navin had a great love for cooking and the Kentucky Derby. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, when she and her sister would decorate until there was no more space to cover.

She is suvived by her sister, Betty Jane Navin; her niece, Marley Navin; her nephews, John and Peter Navin; two great-nieces; two great-nephews; her best friends, Betty Fronzelter and Tom and JoAnn Gooley; and many relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her brother, John.

Visitation was held on Sunday, May 4, at Chas. Verheyden Inc. in Grosse Pointe Park.
