Don T. Galvin

Died: Tuesday, August 26, 2003
Don T. Galvin Jr., long-time Grosse Pointe resident, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003 while in residence at Bon Secours Nursing Home in St. Clair Shores. He was 81 years old. Mr. Galvin was born in Detroit's North End and his family moved to Grosse Pointe in 1928, where he attended St. Clare of Montefalco School, and De Lasalle Preparatory School. He attended the University of Detroit and the University of Michigan. In 1942 he joined the US Army Air Corps, where he became a pilot and rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and Flight Instructor to the American Expeditionary Forces in Lubbock Texas. In October, 1945, following his military service, he joined Michigan Standard Alloy Casting Co. on Detroit's east side, as a salesman. Later he formed Galvin & Co., a manufacturer's representative firm, from which he retired in 1981. He moved to John's Island in Vero Beach, Florida, where he enjoyed playing tennis and bridge.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Anne Ottaway of Ann Arbor and Sarah Galvin of New York City. His son, Don T. Galvin III, (Stephanie) lives in Grosse Pointe. He was pre-deceased by his son, Edward Galvin. He has 4 grandsons and one niece. Mr. Galvin will be interred at Mt. Elliott Cemetery following a service for family and close friends on Friday, September 12th, at 2:00pm.. Memorials may be sent in Mr. Galvin's memory to The Capuchin Mission Association, 1820 Mt. Elliott Ave., Detroit, Michigan 48027; and to the Michigan Dyslexia Institute, 532 East Shiawassee St., Lansing, MI 48912.
