Brian O'Keefe

Died: Wednesday, September 10, 2003
St. Clair Shores resident Brian O'Keefe, 78, died of pneumonia on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at St. John Hospital.

Born in Detroit, Mr. O'Keefe served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. During his time with the Army, he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He earned his bachelors degree in economics and his juris doctorate from the University of Detroit.

Mr. O'Keefe worked at Chrysler Corp. as the director of government liason and the assistant controller and tax director for 28 years until his retirement in 1980.

Mr. O'Keefe was an usher at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, president of the University of Detroit Alumni Association from 1968 to 1969, honorary trustee and charter member of the President's Cabinet and recipient of the Tower Award in 1978.

He was affiliated with the Blue Key at the University of Detroit, of which he was president from 1950 to 1952, Gamma Eta Gamma, the Tax Executives Institute Inc., American Judicature Society, the World Peace Through Law Center, chair of the Congressional Action Council of the Greater Detroit Chamber of Commerce from 1970 to 1971, Regional Export Expansion Council and the U.S. Department of Commerce in 1973.

He is survived by his wife, RoseAnn; his daughters, Diane O'Keefe, Maureen (Bill) Cousins, Sharon (Mark) Newlon and Janet O'Keefe; his sons, Thomas, Michael (Paula), Stephen (Storme), Kelly (Cristy) and Barry (Donna); 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother.

He was predeceased by two sisters and his brother.

A memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
