The Opinion piece, "Skip church for cleanup this Sunday," published in the May 16 issue of the Grosse Pointe News was a shocking reminder of the extent to which the secular media have dropped in their dismissal of the importance of religion in the lives of the general public.
The idea of "Keep Holy the Sabbath" was simply dismissed as, "We wouldn't normally do this...," and, "We think the Lord will understand." What hubris! And the pantheistic pap of "turn(ing) out to tidy-up God's natural church, the wonderful outdoors," reveals an egregious misplacement of one's understanding of one's spiritual priorities. Moreover, who are you to make the judgment?
The problem was that this laudable project was scheduled for a day and time when it was bound to conflict with many churchgoers' priority. Obviously, those who planned this event were equally unmindful of where many persons would wish to be Sunday morning.
But it still took a particular mindlessness to headline, "Skip church for cleanup this Sunday!" Spare us such advice!
