Blessings

To the Editor:

Thank you for the lovely picture of the children at St. Clare of Montefalco celebrating the feast of St. Francis on Oct. 4, "St. Clare students bless animals" (Oct. 21, Grosse Pointe News).

St. Francis of Assisi, who loved all the wonders of God's creation, penned a powerful message:

Prayer of Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love.

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

To be understood, as to understand;

To be loved, as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive.

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

How meaningful it would be if just one day, the world lived by these words.

Whether we believe in God, Buddha, Allah or Mohammed or if our prayers are private and self-directed, we can probably embrace and practice some of these beliefs.

Any little effort would surely make the world a better place.
