Thanks for successful benefit

To the Editor:

Anyone who has ever worked on a fundraiser in Grosse Pointe knows how difficult it can be to make an event successful. There are so many worthwhile causes and the local businesses must feel the strain of being solicited multiple times a year.

But, on Oct. 5 the PTO at Pierce Middle School in Grosse Pointe Park, held its Second Annual Golf Outing at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Macomb Township. Through the support of many people and businesses in the area, they raised over $3,500.

This year 46 golfers hit the fairway swinging to help maintain the student activities and programs sponsored by the PTO.

First, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the businesses and individuals that sponsored a hole at the course:

The Harness family; Phil and Michelle Pitters, Phil Pitters Concrete & Masonry; John Ahee, Edmund T Ahee Jewelry Co.; Mark O'Brien, Roy O'Brien Ford Inc.; Swany Construction Inc.; Jim Saros, Jim Saros Real Estate; BP Oil Inc., Jefferson and Alter; McMillan Bros., Creative Business Environments; William T. Burgess, Dickinson Wright PLLC; Grounds & Gardens; Cathy and James Butler; Henry Brennan; Julie and Bill Carion; Cat and Rick Ruffner, Avanti Press Inc.; Dr. Larry Herzog, Grosse Pointe Animal Clinic; Chris Cotzias and John Cotzias, Re/Max in the Pointe; James C. Farber, Executive Strategies Inc.; Michael J. Fikany, James R. Fikany Real Estate Co.; and Michael G. Stavale, Stavale & Gemmete PLLC.

Secondly, I would like to recognize the following individuals and businesses that made prize contributions for this event:

Pat Scott Jewelers; Charlene Blondy, Posterity: A Gallery; Something Special Too; Detroit Red Wings; Detroit Tigers Inc.; Detroit Pistons; Lynn Pellerito, WDIV; David & Mary Lou Muer, Blue Pointe Restaurant; Motor City Casino; Pointe Pedlar; Diana Sharpe, The Secret Garden; The Whitney; John Long, WKQI/WNIC; The Pointe After; Max Adani, Sycamore Hills Golf Club; Cat and Rick Ruffner, Avanti Press Inc.; John Lynch, Ziebart International; Oxford Beverage & Deli; Tim Zens, Henkel; Alger Deli & Liquor; Mike Mulier, Mulier Market; Bill Solomon, Village Wine Shop; Clayton Smith, Lochmoor Chrysler Jeep; Patricia Zens; Mike Fikany; Connie Fontaine; and the Smith family.

Finally I would like to acknowledge all those who participated in the outing: the golfers who woke up early for a 9 a.m. start and the staff at Sycamore Hills Golf Club along with Max Adani, who made the day run so smoothly.

A special thank you to Walt Fitzpatrick, Sharon McMillan, Helen Srebernak and Linda Lockwood for their efforts in helping to make this event a reality.

I hope that everyone who attended enjoyed the day. I know that the students at Pierce are extremely lucky to have so many generous supporters in the community who are willing to help make a difference.

The PTO still hopes to make this an annual event and we look forward to more golfers and to more "Fun on the Fairway" in 2003.
