Recognition

Recognition

To the Editor:

A number of awards have been bestowed on the Harper Woods School District. There have been Outstanding Teacher Awards, Scholastic Awards to students, and awards given for extra-curricular activities. There is one recognition that, I believe, is long overdue and that is in the district's administration offices.

The 2003-2004 Budget Report lists the following charges to taxpayers (the 2004-2005 Budget Report, I believe, will contain a 3 percent increase in salaries):

Executive administration superintendent's office: Daniel E. Danosky, salary $109,180, retirement $19,448, total budgeted, $225,387; director of administrative services: Joan Deaton, salary $100,301, retirement $23,588; bookkeeper salary: $81,288, total budgeted $282,498; school administration includes principals and support staff total $671,719; and purchasing service technician: $85,000, total $86,750.

The above budget entries total $1,266,354. At a student count of 1,100 that would amount to administration expense of approximately $1,150 per pupil.

These other three entries may also be classified as administration: guidance services $237,854, psychological services $119,948, and social work services $124,435; for a total of $482,237 which would then figure to $1,590 per student

In any case, I would estimate they are the highest in the state or even the country. I would think some recognition is warranted.
