I read, somewhat incredulously, last week's Grosse Pointe News article and editorial outlining the Grosse Pointe Woods Planning Commission's latest encounter with the Grosse Pointe Public Library Board. I have concluded that the planning commission may be merely doing the work of a few members of the Woods City Council.
After all, this is the same planning commission which carries the council's flag when dealing with local business development. The tone of micro-management has crept out of the city council chambers into the planning commission meeting room.Ê
The effect of mundane and outdated rules has transcended the arena of economic development into our libraries. The time may soon come when the residents of Grosse Pointe Woods will be asked if they want a status quo style leadership in the council chamber or if the city needs leadership with foresight to tackle the real issues of city government.
