One has come to expect strange things out of the Grosse Pointe Woods City Council. This time they seem to be throwing money at a public relations mess they created themselves in the impending water main project scheduled to begin soon on Mack Avenue, with the hope of fixing much more than a broken pipe.
The council, under the leadership of Mayor Robert Novitke, authorized the expenditure of more than $18,000 for a public relations plan explaining how Grosse Pointe Woods residents and business owners will be affected by this project over the next two years.
One would expect our elected officials to be able to effectively communicate with the voters of this community without hiring a public relations consultant and charging them an extra $18,000 to do so. Perhaps that is too much to expect of our current council.
What is going on in the Woods? Looking for answers, and if there are none, looking for change! I think Woods residents would be serving themselves well to take the time and, as stated in the Opinion column of the Grosse Pointe News on Jan. 2, attend a few city council meetings this year.
