It's been a great opening week for Grosse Pointe North boys' soccer team.

The Norsemen moved to 3-1-1 overall after ending the week with a tough 3-1 win over host Warren Mott.

"The guys, for the most part, played a strong game," head coach Skipper Mukhtar said. "We had a lot of momentum heading into halftime, but then fell asleep a little for a stretch in the second half and let them back into the game.

"We finished strong and beat a nice team."

Chris Bahr scored twice for the Norsemen and Phil Aufdemberge added a goal.

The Norsemen scored at the 32:14 and 17:43 mark of the first half, and Bahr was credited with the goal when the Marauders scored on their own goal to make it a 3-1 game.

Senior goalkeeper Nate Steinkampf played well. He stopped a penalty kick at the 7:03 mark of the first half and made some huge saves in the second half to keep the home team at bay.

In other games, North tied Chippewa Valley 3-3 and finished 2-1 in the Dearborn Invitational.

The Norsemen beat Dearborn 1-0 and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep 3-0, and lost 3-1 to Riverview.
