Head coach Dan Cimini and his Little Caesars 15U baseball team won the Silver Bracket of the SlumpBuster tournament last month in Omaha, Neb.

"It was one great tournament for all of us," Cimini, of Grosse Pointe, said. "We played great as a team, won some big games and had a chance to sit in the stands of all three College World Series games.

"This was something special."

The team finished 7-1, beating California Pacific Riverside Baseball Academy 7-1 in the championship game.

Rob Martinez, Alex Martinez and Logan Mico of Grosse Pointe South joined Liggett players Connor McCarron, Jackson Walkowiak, Joseph Cipriano, Teddy Wujek and Sean Fannon on Cimini's travel baseball squad.

Cipriano had 15 hits, including nine doubles, and McCarron had 15 hits. They lead the team in hitting in the eight games.

The team is 15-3.

"The kids have improved a lot and they know what I expect of them," Cimini said. "They learned a lot."

The team plays a few more tournaments this month before concluding its season.

The players will play varsity next spring.
