The University Liggett boys' golf team easily made this weekend's Division 4 state finals tournament after taking third in last weekend's regional tournament at Westwynd Golf Club.

The top three squads in the 12-team field made the finals. Auburn Hills Oakland Christian won the regional with a 328, followed by Clarkston Everest Collegiate with a 345 and Liggett with a 350.

The fourth-place team, Jewish Academy, was a distant 27 strokes, 377, from the Knights.

For head coach Dan Sullivan and the Knights, the all-junior squad of Stephen Campau, Paul Sidhu, Luke Soyka, Thomas Peracchio and Jeff Shell did the honors.

Campau was the medalist, shooting a 74. He won by a stroke over Oakland Christian senior John VanNoord.

The Knights' other scorers were Sidhu with a 91, Peracchio with a 92, Soyka with a 93 and Shell with a 94.

Coming up for Liggett is the Division 4 state finals Friday, June 6, and Saturday, June 7, at Bedford Valley.
