The Grosse Pointe North boys' lacrosse team had its share of unbelievable moments in its Division 2 regional first-round game Saturday, May 24.

The Norsemen and head coach Mark Seppala played at Rochester Adams. It was a battle of the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds in the regional and it was as even as it could get.

After a defensive first-half in which Adams led 2-1, the Norsemen came back to grab a 4-3 lead.

Each team exchanged the lead and with one minute left in the fourth quarter, the home team led 6-5.

The Norsemen grabbed possession with time winding down and Seppala called a timeout to draw up a play.

His play worked to perfection as senior Mitchell Stapleton connected on a pass to senior Michael Murray, who buried the ball behind the goalie, tying it 6-6 with only 10 seconds left.

In a matter of a couple of minutes, the joyful moment turned sour as Adams' Vinnie DiMarco scored to send North home with a 7-6 overtime defeat.

Scoring for the Norsemen were junior Max Yoshida with two goals and one assist; senior Chene Frontiera with one goal, finishing the season with 40 to lead the team and he scored in every single game this season; senior Greg Lazar with one goal; junior Will Colborn with one goal; and Murray with the tying goal.

Stapleton had two assists, while junior Richie Filipelli and senior Patrick Turnbull each had one assist.

Graduating are Stapleton, Jaron Nelson, Michael Murray, Julian Makowski, Bradley Isherwood, Lazar, Rhys Williams, Andres Hensley, Turnbull, Frontiera, Nick Murray and Shane Mlynarek.

Grosse Pointe North finished the season 9-8 overall.
