The Grosse Pointe South boys' lacrosse team finally played up to its potential last week in its 13-5 home win over L'Anse Creuse.

It was the Blue Devils' Macomb Area Conference Red Division opener.

"This is the way we are supposed to play and I think we still could have played a little better," head coach Don Wolford said. "We have players who can score and they hit several posts and missed an easy, wide-open net tonight."

It was scoreless for the first half of the opening quarter before the Blue Devils scored three to take a 3-0 lead.

Jack Denison, Andrew Wright and Sam Wilkinson scored for the home team.

The Lancers came back to make it a 3-2 game, but Wright, Jerry Coyle and Denison scored in the final six minutes to help the home team build a 6-2 halftime advantage.

It was the Andrew Hyde show in the second half as the senior attack man scored four of the Blue Devils' seven goals as they pulled away after tallying the final six goals of the game.

Michael Coyle, Wright and Denison also scored in the second half as the Blue Devils outscored the Lancers 7-2 in the final 16 minutes.

For the game, Hyde had four goals and two assists, while Wright added three goals and four assists for a seven-point evening.

Mac Carroll had a couple of assists, too, as the Blue Devils dominated the stat sheet on both ends of the field.

South also played road games against L'Anse Creuse North and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep last week.

The Blue Devils blasted LCN 12-3 as Wright and Denison scored three goals apiece, while Michael Coyle and Jerry Coyle had two goals apiece. Hyde and Carroll also scored a goal.

Wolford's squad made it three wins in a row last weekend, beating host Notre Dame Prep 8-3.

Grosse Pointe South is 2-0 in the MAC Red Division and 3-3 overall.
