The Grosse Pointe North boys’ basketball team ended its five-game losing streak last week, beating Utica 57-49.

“We needed that, but once again we made more work for ourselves with missed free throws,” head coach Matt Lockhart said. “We need to focus a little more.”

Justin Kennedy continues to post monster numbers in the paint. This time, he had 20 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks.

Darrin Woods also received a starting nod from Lockhart and rewarded the team with 12 points and six rebounds.

Sal Ciaravino had seven points and senior Jacob Zacharias added 14 points, including three three-point baskets, plus he added five rebounds.

It was an even second half, but a fourth quarter burst from Kennedy at both ends of the court helped the Norsemen grab control of the game and put one in the win column.

Two nights later, North traveled to Warren Mott and lost 88-72.

Kennedy had 23 points, followed by Zacharias with 18 and senior Ricky Watson had 11.

Grosse Pointe North is 2-6 in the Macomb Area Conference White Division and 4-10 overall.
