The Grosse Pointe South boys’ hockey team had a second straight weekend of back-to-back games.

This time, the Blue Devils finished 0-1-1, tying Detroit Country Day 0-0 and losing 4-1 to Macomb Dakota.

In the scoreless tie with Country Day, senior goalkeeper Andrew Wright made a spectacular pad save to keep the game 0-0.

They were a step slow the following day in the road game against a tough, physical Dakota squad.

The Blue Devils trailed 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 after two.

Senior Ken Cervone scored the Blue Devils’ lone goal in the third period and the Cougars added an empty-netter to round out the scoring.

Earlier in the week, South crushed Dearborn United 7-0, improving to 2-0-1 in the Michigan Metro Hockey League and 4-2-1 overall.

North results

Head coach Brad Case watched his Grosse Pointe North boys’ hockey team play well in last weekend’s tough 3-1 loss to Novi Detroit Catholic Central.

The visiting Norsemen trailed 2-1 and had chances to tie the game in the final period before the Shamrocks finished them off with an empty net goal.

Ryan Babcock scored the lone goal and Josh Champney played well in net.

“We played a great game and even had a goal disallowed, which really would have made this game interesting,” Case said. “We didn’t play very well the game before, but the guys came to play against Catholic Central.”

In other action last week, North lost to Livonia Stevenson, falling to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League.

Coming up for the Norsemen is a game Monday, Dec. 23, against DeLaSalle at Comerica Park.
