The Grosse Pointe High School figure skating team is off to a great start.

The team’s first practice was Wednesday, Nov. 20, and the girls have been at the rink at 6 a.m. for their practice sessions.

This year the team has 12 skaters, with four new to the program.

“We have skaters from both North and South and on all three levels of the team (A, B, and C Team),” head coach Shelly Rosinski said.

“We were moved to a new district this year, which means we will be competing against teams we’ve never competed against at district competitions before.”

The girls’ first competition is Tuesday, Dec. 17, in Hartland, and the team hosts the second skating competition Friday, Jan. 17, at Detroit City Arena.

The final competition is Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Port Huron.
