The University Liggett girls’ volleyball team ended its five-match winning streak last week, losing the first of three games in a quad match at Lutheran Westland.

“We didn’t play well at all in the first two games, and then the girls got into the swing of things in the final match,” head coach Joe LaMagno said. “It wasn’t one of our better outings.

“It was a collective stinker.”

The Knights lost 25-10, 25-20 to Huron Valley Lutheran and followed that with a 25-10, 25-11 defeat to Lutheran Westland.

“The mistakes in every area of the game was not fun to watch,” LaMagno said. “These are teams we should have competed with and instead we played poorly and made them look great.

“I’m glad the girls played better in the third match and won.”

The Knights beat Lutheran South 25-17, 25-22, to move their record to 11-14-2 overall.

Next for Liggett is a Class C district semifinal game Wednesday, Nov. 6, against host Madison Heights Bishop Foley. If the Knights win, they final two nights later.
