Knights preparing for state regionals

The University Liggett girls’ and boys’ cross country teams competed in last weekend’s Michigan Independent Athletic Conference meet.

The girls placed third with 79 points. Auburn Hills Oakland Christian won the meet with 44 points and Lutheran Westland was right there, taking second with 49.

The Knights’ top runner was Maddie Wu, who was seventh with a time of 21:19.40, and Danielle Lorant placed 14th with a time of 22:57.30.

Madison Jerome was right behind Lorant, posting a time of 23:10.10 to take 15th, and the Knights’ final two scorers were Taylor Slayton and Hannah Hodges, who were 28th and 36th with times of 24:21.60 and 25:38.80, respectively.

Dominique Ianuzzi also competed and finished 44th with a time of 26:56.

The boys finished fifth with 138 points. Ann Arbor Greenhills won the meet with 45 points, followed by Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest with 65, Oakland Christian with 77 and Taylor Baptist Park with 123.

William Loner was the Knights’ best runner, finishing 15th with a time of 19:08.50, and Nick Brusilow had a solid result, taking 18th with a time of 19:34.50.

Anthony Galea ran a time of 20:23.20 to finish 34th, while Sam Brusilow was 43rd and Jorden Peterson 52nd with times of 21:06.50 and 22:04.40, respectively, for the Knights.

Others who competed in the MIAC cross country race were Patrick Bernas and Andrew Wu, who placed 54th and 75th with times of 22:12.90 and 26:50.10.
