University Liggett’s boys’ tennis team won its own invitational last weekend, but it was too close to call.

Liggett had 18 points and Traverse City St. Francis had 16 points, while Comstock Park finished with 11 and Essexville Garber had three to round out the four teams.

The Knights’ doubles team were outstanding as they all won their flights.

The No. 1 doubles team of seniors James Jurcak and Neil Sekhon led the way, followed by senior Alan Jurcak and junior August Bonacci at No. 2 doubles, sophomore Jack Ninivaggi and junior Alex Dow at No. 3, and freshmen Jackson Benning and Davey Sekhon at No. 4 doubles.

Head coach Drew Mascarin watched two of the Knights’ singles players, freshman T.J. Dulac and senior Steven Kneiser, win 2-of-3 matches, and senior Patrick Diaz and junior Jeffrey Shell chipped by winning one match apiece.

The Knights needed every point to edge out a good opponent as St. Francis.
