The Grosse Pointe South girls’ volleyball team, 14-6-2, began its division slate last week, with an impressive road win over Utica Ford, 25-10, 25-22, 25-23.

“We executed well and came out ready to play,” head coach Kevin Nugent said.

The Blue Devils were off and running when Izzy Murphy served aces on six of the team’s first nine points. She finished with 14 kills and 10 service points.

Sydney Srebernak and Grace Metry combined to earn 26 service points, and the duo of Carina Bertakis (24 assists) and Lexi Kohut (nine blocks) played well as the Blue Devils won in three straight in a Macomb Area Conference White Division match.

Last weekend South played in the Maverick Tournament and finished 1-2-1.

The Blue Devils beat Livonia Clarenceville, tied Auburn Hills Avondale and lost to Farmington Hills Harrison and Farmington.

Martine Mays, Kara French, Ashley Borowicz (middle) and Kayli Johnson (libero) were all singled out by Nugent for their fine play.
