January 03, 2013 Top student athletes
Grosse Pointe Academy middle school students, from left, Hannah Lemanski, David Scupholm and Jyen-ai Jones were named athletes of the season for the fall of 2012 based on their athletic achievements, leadership abilities, academic performance and citizenship. Lemanski, a seventh-grader, is a three-year veteran on the cross-country team and was co-captain and most valuable runner. Her first-place finish in the girls’ race during the GPA cross-country invitational Oct. 11 contributed to the team coming in second place. Lemanski is on the high honor roll and citizenship and head of school lists. Scupholm, an eighth-grader, was co-captain and Team Bulldog for the boys’ tennis team. A two-year veteran of the team, he played at No. 2 singles. Scupholm is on the high honor roll and citizenship and head of school lists. Jones, also an eighth-grader, is a two-year veteran of the varsity volleyball team and this year’s Most Valuable Player. She also received awards as best digger (with an all-time record of 76 digs during two seasons) and best passer, and was named Team Bulldog.
