November 29, 2012The annual Dan Griesbaum Baseball School is Thursday and Friday, Dec. 27 and 28, at Grosse Pointe South High School’s main gymnasium.
The holiday hitting camp runs from 1 to 4 p.m. each day and is for players in second to sixth grade. Those in seventh and eighth grade from out of the Grosse Pointe Public School System may also attend due to MHSAA regulations.
The cost of the camp is $60 for each day or $100 for both days and all players must be pre-registered. The camp is to provide detailed instruction on the fundamentals of the game of baseball by teaching proper mechanics in a safe and positive atmosphere.
The emphasis is instructional, not recreational.
Camp directors are Dan Griesbaum and Matt Reno.
Griesbaum has been Grosse Pointe South’s varsity baseball coach for 30 years. During his tenure, the Blue Devils have won 12 conference, 19 district and one state championship in 2001. They have been in five state semifinals.
He is a member of the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Reno is Griesbaum’s assistant baseball coach and manager of the Grosse Pointe Redbirds and Muckdogs summer baseball teams.
He was an All-Conference baseball player at Grand Valley State University.
Other instructions are top high school and youth coaches, as well as college and high school players.
Players should bring their own bats and the camp is co-sponsored by Grosse Pointe South baseball and Burke’s Sport Haven in Eastpointe.
