November 15, 2012The 2012 Grosse Pointe Red Barons South freshman football team (9 and 10 year olds) won its first-ever ESFL championship for the freshman division.
The team finished the regular season and playoffs with an 8-1 record.
They avenged their only loss of the season in the championship game, defeating a very good East Detroit team, 25-6.
The Red Barons received fine play all year from Mitchell Stricker, Miles Jamieson, Jacob Peruski, Cameron Mallegg, Alexander Shaheen, Benjamin Verlinden, Daniel Klepp, James Doerer, Devin Slaughter, Michael Currier, Kevin McCarron, Jon Clark, Michael Stritzinger, Dominic Holden, Grant Hart, Cody Shook, Nathan Lawrence, Tyler DeGrand, Nicholas Fannon, Frank Valice, Charles Carene, Jacob Butkus, T.J. Rumely, Samuel Hermon, Colin Southers, James Vandewyngearde, Ryan Buszka, Ben Gabrion, Aidan Walsh, Justin Butkus, Noah Petropoulos, Andrew Michels, Harry Crane, Max Gavagan, Dominic Coluni, Drew Burke, Oscar McWood, Michael Murphy, Ethan Vernon and Caden McQueen.
The coaching staff consisted of Michael Mallegg, Jay Verlinden, Tim Walsh, Harry Crane, Steve McQueen, Mike Stritzinger, Dan Fannon and John Doerer with Al Shaheen serving as head coach.
