The University Liggett boys' soccer team stretched its winning streak to four games last week, beating Lutheran Westland 2-0 and Novi Franklin Road Christian 3-0.

"It was nice to get two quality wins and make it four wins in a row after that tough stretch of three games we lost," head coach David Backhurst said.

The visiting Knights struck twice in the first half against Lutheran Westland.

Junior Adante Provenzano corralled a loose ball in front of the Westland goal and booted it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead midway through the stanza.

With five minutes left before halftime, senior Andrew Heaney blasted a shot from the 30-yard line that found the back of the net, giving the Knights an insurance goal.

"It's tough to play at Lutheran Westland, but we played well and found a way to win with a couple of goals and solid defense and goalkeeping," Backhurst said.

Junior goalie Patrick Broder posted his fourth shutout, stopping 15 shots, and he stopped five later in the week when the Knights blanked Franklin Road Christian.

The game was scoreless in the first half, but 15 minutes into the second half, junior Anthony Simon moved up from his defensive position to scored off an assist from senior Peter Hopkins.

Hopkins was able to net a goal two minutes later, converting a penalty kick. He is 3-for-3 on penalty kicks this season.

With eight minutes left, Provenzano sent a perfect pass to the foot of junior Max Smith, who scored the final tally.

Liggett improved to 6-3 in the Michigan Independant Athletic Conference and 7-3 overall.
