September 04, 2014
At The Michigan Interscholastic Press Association's summer journalism workshop, 11 students from The Tower and The Tower Pulse won awards for their work. Nine South students won Awards of Excellence for being one of the top three students in their class, and two students won a Sparty Award for being the top classroom performer.

The workshop, held on Michigan State's campus every summer, brings 350 students together from around the country to learn about journalism and the media. Twenty-seven Grosse Pointe South students attended the workshop, the most of any high school in the state, and new Tower adviser Rod Satterthwaite was an instructor at the workshop, teaching a sports coverage class.

Award winners include: Emily Fleming, Angelica Kalogeridis, Brenna Bromwell, Alexa Lysik, Sparty Award winner Lauren Pankin, Camille Gazoul, Kelsey Baker, Eryka Benson, and Caleb Chadwell. Matt Schulte, a Sparty Award winner and Juliana Berkowski are not pictured.
