South student first

The National Association of Teachers of Singing held its 53rd national conference July 5-9 in Boston. During the conference, the final rounds for the National Music Theater and National Student Auditions were held.

Grosse Pointe Park resident Nina White won first place in the category of High School Musical Theater Women. She sang three songs during the semifinal round at the Boston Conservatory including "I Speak Six Languages" and "Someone to Watch Over Me."

Nina sang "Six Languages" again during the final round the next day at the Marriott Copley Place Hotel. She qualified for these final rounds after earlier competitions at Ball State University and on YouTube.

Nina is 15 years old and is a junior at Grosse Pointe South High School. Her voice teachers are Wayman Ezell of Detroit and Carol Perry of Grosse Pointe Farms.
