Students attend special event

June 19, 2014
St. Clare of Montefalco's fifth through seventh graders joined 35 other Detroit area schools to hear Civil Rights activist, Myrlie Evers-Willams, speak on the "Power of Perseverance" at the Detroit Music Hall, May 14.

She was the recipient of the 2014 Ford Freedom Award given by the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

Her husband, Medgar Evers, was assassinated by a member of the Ku Klux Klan in 1963. She said it took her 30 years to get justice for her husband.

St. Clare fifth-grader Robert Williams was able to ask her a question about perseverance.
