Scholarship night

May 29, 2014
The Mothers' Club of Grosse Pointe South awarded nearly $60,000 to 77 students at its annual Scholarship Awards Night Wednesday, May 21, according to Allison Kuhnlein, vice president, scholarship. This amount includes $19,600 in community and family scholarships, as well as an additional $39,950 in Mothers' Club funds raised through their fundraising efforts such as the Holiday Walk, Spring Benefit and School Store. Mothers' Club executive board members presented the awards, as well as representatives from the various community groups and families. The Mothers' Club uses the funds they raise to invest in the past, present, and future of Grosse Pointe South High School. One third goes toward the "past" – the preservation of their historic buildings and grounds; one third is used for the "present" – enriching the classroom experience; and one third for the "future" – providing financial assistance to the graduating seniors to help them with the next step in their education. The scholarship recipients from this year's graduating class are headed to Princeton, Yale, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Michigan State and the University of Michigan, among others.
