Grosse Pointe North High School musicians achieved superior, excellent and good ratings at the recent State Solo and Ensemble competition.

North had 15 soloists and five small ensembles representing the school at March 21 and 22 competition at Walled Lake Central High School. All North's soloists and ensemble received superlative ratings from Michigan School Vocal Music Association judges. Each was required to sing two songs, one in a foreign language, and sight-read a short piece of music.

Soloists received two superior ratings, 12 excellent ratings and a good rating.

The ensemble, Pointe Chorale, was given a superior rating for the second consecutive year.

The Choraliers, Norsemen, AcaFella and CounterPointe each earned an excellent rating.

The North choirs perform their Spring Broadway concert at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, in the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are sold at the door or in advance at Wild Birds Unlimited.

Director Ben Henri and accompanist Cheryl Faba said they were proud of the students and all their hard work.

Schools from 10 counties in southeast Michigan participated in this event.
