Two thousand nine hundred, seventy-seven American flags lined the lawns at both Grosse Pointe North and Grosse Pointe South high schools on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

The flags — 2,977 reminders of the innocent lives lost 12 years ago in the tragedy of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center — were part of an annual national memorial, the 9/11 Never Forget Project, from the Young America's Foundation, a conservative, non-profit educational organization.

The scene outside North’s Vernier Road entrance.
Members from North and South's chapters of Young Americans for Freedom led the memorial.

It's the third such memorial at North and second at South.
