Emma Aboukasm, of Grosse Pointe South High School, and Steffi Roche, pictured right, of University Liggett School, were two of six vocalists who participated in the Detroit Jazz Festival’s Youth Vocalist Competition Aug. 8, at the Dirty Dog Jazz Café.

All six competed for an opportunity to join the three divas — Ursula Walker, Jeannine Course-Miller and Barbara Ware — for a performance at the “Detroit Divas Sing, Sing, Sing” event at the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House two weeks ago, an opportunity awarded to Re’Vana Stanfield, of Detroit School of the Arts.

Others competing included: Alysha Hinton, Detroit School of the Arts; Britney Johnson, Detroit Renaissance High School; and Sonjia Fry, Detroit School of the Arts.
