Election fever swept across the nation last week. And while millions of Americans casted votes for presidential, congressional, county and legislative offices, Grosse Pointe Academy students elected their own 2012-2013 student council officers.

This year’s council includes: David Scupholm, president; Jeffrey Buhl, vice president; Ian Homsy, treasurer and Nick Connell, secretary.

“I have to commend all the candidates for running,” said Sasha Murphy, student council advisor. “In order to campaign for votes, students have to make posters and write a speech. Getting up in front of the entire middle school to present your speech is a great experience for everyone who participates.

“Whether they win or not, students are still demonstrating leadership and initiative.”
