Shores may send e-mail alerts

September 04, 2014
GROSSE POINTE SHORES — City administrators may compile a list of resident e-mail addresses to receive timely alerts.

"We're trying to add more services to residents because that's what makes this a special place to live," said Grosse Pointe Shores Mayor Ted Kedzierski.

Some Grosse Pointe Shores residents asked to be notified by e-mail of special municipal announcements, such as changes in the rubbish collection schedule, according to Kedzierski.

Last winter, a homeowner didn't know rubbish collections were suspended temporarily due to heavy snowfall.

He overcame the elements to set out his garbage cans before leaving town.

"It sat for two or three days," Kedzierski said. "He said if he'd known, he wouldn't have taken it out."

City Manager Mark Wollenweber is studying the creation of a resident e-mail database.
