Fruehaufs donate $1M to ULS

July 31, 2014
GROSSE POINTE FARMS — University Liggett School alumni H. Richard Fruehauf Jr., (Class of 1948, Detroit University School) and Janet Fruehauf, (Ligget Class of 1950), recently donated a $1 million gift in support of the school's Sure Foundations capital campaign.

"We feel very fortunate to be part of the University Liggett School community and are honored to contribute to the continued success of students attending our fine school," H. Richard Fruehauf Jr. said. "Considering all of the influences and pressures affecting the lives of our young people today, University Liggett School is a positive and encouraging voice."

The Fruehaufs' commitment and donationsto the school has spanned several generations. In addition to the Fruehaufs being alumni of the school's predecessor schools, all five Fruehauf children attended ULS. The Fruehaufs are parents and grandparents of University Liggett School alumni, and the grandparents of current students. They have both served on the school's board of trustees.

University Liggett School is in the first phase of a two-phase athletics project culminating with the construction of a state-of-the-art athletics complex adjacent to McCann Ice Arena. The first phase of the project involves realigning and rebuilding the existing athletic fields; the second phase includes the athletics complex as well as a series of streetscape improvements.

"We would encourage all those whose lives have been touched by University Liggett School to support the campus, activities and students as they strive toward greater goals," Janet Fruehauf said.

"The University Liggett School provides a firm foundation for students, and this important investment in the campus and community is most worthy of all of our support."

In recognition of their gift, the gymnasium in the school's new athletics complex will be named in the Fruehaufs' honor.
