GROSSE POINTE SHORES — Competition was so hot at this summer’s municipal tennis tournament that the mayor is thinking of cooling things down next year with an earlier starting time.

Twelve Grosse Pointe Shores residents in six teams competed in the second annual adult mixed-doubles tournament at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Osius Park.

“It was 83 degrees,” said Mayor Ted Kedzierski.

He regarded the afternoon heat as a tennis lesson.

“Next year, we’re going to have tournaments starting early in the day,” Kedzierski said.

The top three teams were:

First: Mike Kedzierski, Ted Kedzierski, Alla Kedzierski;

Second: Cheryl Cusmano and Nick Cusmano and

Third: Marlena Hanlon, John Seago, Kyle Anderson, Dan Anderson, Donn Schroder, Renie Seago and Ross Kennedy.

Another change for next year is separating a youth tournament into three age categories.

“It will be divided into 12 and under, 14 and under and 17 and under,” Kedzierski said.

Divisions are intended to even out competition between young and older youth.
