It's never too early to think of warm summer days - milkshakes and fries.

And with that in mind, the Grosse Pointe Woods city council agreed to a proposal to update the city's concession stand at Lake Front Park.

According to Woods public works director Joe Ahee, the popular site is in need of repair and upgrades, but he is certain the work can be done by employees from his department.

Ahee told the city council, meeting as a committee of the whole, that it has been several years since updates had been done, and most of the repairs are minor and cosmetic. Among the projects are new countertops and new screens.

“We should be able to complete the project for under $5,000,” he said. “Keeping the work in-house will keep the prices down.”

Ahee also said the city would be putting the summer concession stand business out for bid in the next several weeks. The National Coney Island has held the contract for the past few years, but Ahee indicated other local eateries have expressed interest.
