Grosse Pointe Theatre has special performances

January 31, 2013
Grosse Pointe Theatre has two pre-competition performances of “I Do! I Do!” in Fries Auditorium at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. The first performance is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16. The second is at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18.

The performances are a prelude to the theater’s entry into the national One-Act Play Festival, sponsored by the American Association of Community Theatres.

This one-act play was written by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, authors of “The Fantasticks.”

Each performance is an hour. The $10 tickets are sold only at the door.

Performances duplicate the competition circumstances because the audience will be able to watch the set-up and the tear-down of the set.

Starring in the production are Doug Clark of Royal Oak and Danielle Caralis of Grosse Pointe Shores. Accompanist is Kelly Smith of Eastpointe. The musical is directed by John Forlini of Mount Clemens.

The state AACTFest competition is Feb. 22 through 24 in Kalamazoo and sponsored by the Community Theatre Association of Michigan.

Winner of the state competition attends the regional competition in Wisconsin in April and the regional winner competes at the national festival in Carmel, Ind., in June.

For more information, contact producer Mary Lou Britton at mellbee@earthlink.net or call the theatre at (313) 881-4004.
