CITY OF GROSSE POINTE — Free off-street parking is offered in Village surface lots during weekends through Christmas.
Parking is free in surface lots on Saturday and Sunday:
Nov. 25 and 25,
Dec. 1 and 2,
Dec. 8 and 9,
Dec. 15 and 16, and
Dec. 23 and 24.
"This is done through a partnership with the business community, particularly the Frohlich family trust," said Peter Dame, City of Grosse Pointe manager.
In addition, parking is free in newly-paved Lot 3, located behind Ace Hardware, every day until January.
"That is the city's contribution to extra holiday parking this year," Dame said.
This is the third year the trust is coordinating free parking.
"The business community has agreed to reimburse the city for half of this programs' estimated cost of approximately $5,185," Dame said.
The trust's half comes to $2,592.50.
The Village parking structure, where discounts are in effect year-round, isn't included.
"The structure will operate as it normally does, with free parking on Sundays and three hours of free parking with validation from Trader Joe's, Monday through Saturday," Dame said.
Free gift wrapping of items bought from Village merchants is offered Thursdays through Saturdays, Nov. 23 through Dec. 24, at the Grosse Pointe Art Center, 15051 Kercheval.
Present a receipt to qualify.
The promotion is sponsored by the City of Grosse Pointe.
